So I finally buckled and bought a new computer. It sucks not being able to run ReSharper, compile and listen to Winamp at the same time. I always try to upgrade when I can (this is the first computer I've not put together myself), but I have a pretty old motherboard (Socket-A AMD w/ 1.3ghz) and the fastest CPU I could upgrade to is a 2.4ghz - lame when 3.2ghz is the standard today. Plus, it's time to move to SATA HD and to do so, I need a new motherboard.

I decided on the Dell XPS. This is Dell's top-of-the-line system, mainly used for gaming. Now, I don't game, nor do I intend to (I have a dedicated xbox for that). So you might ask why the XPS? Well... 30% off. I saved over $800 on this system, which would have otherwise been out of my price range. This is what I got:

  • Dimension XPS Series, Intel Pentium 4 Processor 640 (3.2GHz) w/HT Technology and 2MB cache
  • 1GB DDR2 SDRAM at 533MHz
  • 256MB Nvidia GeForce PCIX 6800 Graphics Card
  • Serial ATA RAID 1 With Dual 250GB Hard Drives
  • Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005
  • Dual TV Tuner with Remote Control
  • Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS THX Certified Sound card with DVD
  • 16X DVD+/-RW Drive
  • No monitor/No keyboard/No mouse
  • Dell all-in-one printer 942

Total after taxes: $2030
